Georgia Golf & Travel and The Georgia Golf Trail was recognized by both the House and Senate at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta on Wednesday, February 26th. Doug Hollandsworth, Founder of Georgia Golf & Travel and Al Humphries, Director of Affiliate Memberships was present during the session.
House Representative Tom Kirby from Loganville spoke to the House Members and visitors about what Georgia Golf & Travel is doing to promote Georgia as a premier golf destination. Rep. Kirby mentioned that Georgia had fallen way behind to the states surrounding Georgia when it comes to golf tourism dollars. Kirby went on to say that Georgia Golf & Travel has in place new programs to help bring millions of dollars to Georgia through golf tourism, one being The Georgia Golf Trail presented by Bobby Jones.
Kirby remarked that Georgia Golf & Travel had given each one of the members a "goodie bag" containing more information about The Trail, its members and sponsors, and the overall programs offered. Stone Mountain Golf Club, Legacy on Lanier; Lake Lanier Islands, Bridgestone Golf, Mizuno both companies headquartered here in Georgia, as well as, Georgia Golf & Travel helped provide the gifts.
Senator Bill Cowsert from Athens, sponsored Georgia Golf & Travel on the Senate side.
Representative Kirby has been the driving force, along with Founder Doug Hollandsworth, to draw awareness to the State Legislators and Governor Deal, whom Hollandsworth met with last fall, to help gain funding for their continued programs. These programs will bring new businesses, new residencies, new jobs and an increase in tourism for the state of Georgia.
Hollandsworth wanted to thank the members of the trail, the sponsors, as well as Rep. Kirby and Senator Cowsert for helping making Georgia Golf Trail Day a huge success.

Georgia Golf & Travel LLC and The Georgia Department of Economic Development Tourism Division is promoting strategic marketing programs to promote Georgia as a premier golf destination through a diverse and multi-media marketing and awareness campaign launched in 2013. The core objective of this newly announced initiative will be to drive tourism and increase stay-and-play opportunities at Georgia’s top resorts, golf destinations, hotels, restaurants, local businesses, attractions and bring a bigger economic impact through their golf promotional programs.
